Our Mission
The Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra, Inc. is a friendly, relaxed organization where musicians of all ages and levels of ability can come together to share their love of music. It provides an opportunity for violin, viola, cello, and bass players to develop their skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
Our History
The Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra was established in June 2000 under the name ‘Summer Strings’. Originally intended as a chamber music experience for students of Dr. Susan Tepping, a Georgia State Univeristy music theory professor, and Mrs. Lynn Farnham, an Atlanta Public Schools elementary strings teacher, the group rehearsed in the Farnham’s living room. Over the summer it grew in membership to a full-sized chamber orchestra, which included children from several different schools, as well as their musically inclined parents. At the end of the summer the families wanted to continue on a year-round basis and, no longer just for the summer, the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra was born.
For 20 years, the orchestra rehearsed weekly in various locations but one thing never changed – the unwavering confidence that the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra was a group for music lovers to gather, learn, laugh, and grow lasting relationships. Over the years, this group has brought community together by allowing the members to share their talents and passion with those willing to experience it.
In March 2020, the orchestra suspended rehearsals due to COVID-19. For over a year following, meetings were held bi-weekly via Zoom for members to discuss playing techniques and explore music history together. Once COVID restrictions eased, in-person rehearsals began again. In January of 2024, the orchestra moved to its new location in Decatur and have been there since.
